Piston Hurricane first appeared in the arcade version of Punch-Out!!. Piston's signature move is the Hurricane Rush.

Appearances[]

Punch-Out!! (1984)[]

PistonHurricaneBetterQualitySpriteButBigger

In the Punch-Out!! arcade game, he is the second fighter. When he steps away from his opponent and shouts "C'mon!! C'mon!!" like Gabby Jay did (or Glass Joe in the arcade version of Punch-Out!!), he steps toward his opponent and begins to come to the center. As soon as he comes down, players can give him a body blow to knock him down. If players don't, he will have a pattern of doing a head punch and a body blow punch, so players have to block high and block low and repeat that until he is done, then players sometimes have to dodge his finishing uppercut. His sprites were used twice more for Pizza Pasta, who is a palette swap in the same game; and Great Tiger, who appeared in the sequel, Super Punch-Out!!.

Super Punch-Out!! (1994)[]

Piston Hurricane later appeared in the SNES version of Super Punch-Out!! as the #1 contender for the Minor Circuit Championship sporting in a slightly different appearance, which resembles the look of Mr. Dream and especially Mike Tyson from the NES Punch-Out!! titles, even his winning taunt is almost identical. He no longer has an afro, shaving his hair into a military-type haircut, but his attacks have stayed the same as they were in Punch-Out!! Arcade. He attacks more often than Gabby Jay and Bear Hugger, and he is well rounded with speed and power. He can also get up on the count of 9. After Piston Hurricane is knocked down once, his cornerman will tell him to move around the ring and taunt in preparation for a dodge and counter attack. Piston Hurricane is ranked #1 in the Minor Circuit. Instead of shouting "Come on! Come on!" before doing his 'Hurricane Rush', he growls. He is a palette swap of Aran Ryan.

His voice lines are provided by Charles Martinet.

Moves:

  • Jab: Piston Hurricane does a jab. Cannot be low blocked.
  • Hook: A simple hook. Cannot be low blocked.
  • Body Blow: A hook which attacks the body. Cannot be high blocked or ducked.
  • Uppercut: A basic uppercut. Is done when he or the player gets up. Cannot be blocked.
  • Hurricane Rush: Piston Hurricane goes back, growls and comes back before doing a series of jabs and an uppercut at the end. This is best blocked, but it can be dodged at the cost of it having more jabs.
  • "Show him your fancy footwork": When the cornerman says this, Piston Hurricane starts to move around and taunt between attacks. He will do a high punch, jump, low punch, jump, taunt. An attempt to hit him when he taunts will result in him countering in the opposite area of the player's punch. Used after the first knockdown.
  • Comeback Jab: When the cornerman says "Show him your fancy footwork", and when you punch him after he taunts, he dodges and does a stronger version of his jab.

Damage (SNES):

  • Jab: 7 damage
  • Hook: 9 damage
  • Body Blow: 11 damage
  • Comeback Jab: 12 damage

  • Body Blow: 16 damage
  • Uppercut: 21 damage (14 damage if blocking)

Instant Knockdown: Punch him before he gets to the center before his "Hurricane Rush". Dizzy Knockdown: Piston Hurricane will lean to one side. Punch him in the body on the same side he is as he returns to the center.
